We’ve been busy!

It has been a busy couple of months for ICFN with planting and growing season in full swing! Our activities have included:

• Supporting planting with individual’s and organisations allotments at Belville Community Garden

• Sharing vegetable and herb plug plants grown at Parklea Branching Out with gardens, allotments and schools and nurseries

• Planting up with residents at St Margarets Court and Key Housing

• Planting sessions at Barnados

• Supporting growing activities with Kidron at Lyle Gateway garden

• Helping to deliver well being sessions in the garden at Port Glasgow High School

• Developing a new no-dig garden at Wemyss Bay nursery school

• Arranging visits of other community gardens for volunteers

• Introducing The Bothy cycling and walking groups to PBO and The Drying Green

• Introducing ICFN at Baby Weaning Fayre

• Assisting The Trust in design and layout for raised beds at Craigend Community Centre

• Supporting gardening club sessions utilising the new wheelchair raised beds at Belville

• Organising council compost delivery via Unpaid Work Team to the community gardens

• Attending a Climate Crumbs workshop with Glasgow Community Food Network

• Arranging and delivering a visit to Belville and Branchton gardens from Glasgow Community Food Network

• Delivering ‘How to make lemon balm pesto’ to families at RIG Arts music event at the Drying Green

• Arranging and participating in a foraging session at PBO with volunteers

• Setting up a Whats App group for all the community gardens to share resources and skills (and lots of compost chat!)

• Encouraging new volunteers through leaflet drops, engagement events (Kilmacolm Show and Oak Mall) and social media

• Sharing our Growing Guide booklets with nurseries and families

Now, it’s nearly harvest time and we will have a week of events to plan!
